Institute for Advanced Studies

The Institute for Advanced Studies was created in 2007 at the University of Cergy-Pontoise (UCP) to stimulate scientific collaborations between its researchers and international scientific communities in all major domains. The IAS implements: 1) a program of scientific events including workshops, international conferences, thematic semesters and guest lectures delivered by IAS fellows for a wider audience; 2) a program of visiting professors from all disciplines, hosted from several weeks to months either in the laboratories of the university of Cergy-Pontoise or at the IAS. Each year, some eighty international scientists have been invited and some forty scientific events have been organized. Last year, the University of Cergy-Pontoise was selected by the French government as one of the « Initiatives of Excellence » in higher education and research among a dozen French academic insititutions in capacity to besome world-class universities. As a result, the University launched an ambitious developement strategy focused on increasing its research potential and fostering international academic exchange and visibility. In this context, the IAS will launch a new fellows-in-residence program open to all researcher world-wide in all disciplines.
