The objective of the prestigious Prize is to bring exceptional international and national senior scholars to the Institute for extended periods of time to engage in innovative research with UBC scholars, and to further the Institute’s vision of fostering excellent, creative, interdisciplinary collaboration that yields fundamental new knowledge.

One of the research Prizes will be based on formative work that truly expands the knowledge boundaries of the biological sciences. The area of research should intersect more than one area of biology, and encompass groundbreaking studies that help generate novel areas of research in molecular biology, potentially encompassing microbiology, biochemistry, cell biology, immunology, etc. The other Prizes will be selected from across the social sciences, humanities and sciences.

The Peter Wall International Distinguished Fellow Prizes are awarded on the basis of scholarly excellence and quality of the proposed research during tenure of the Prize, including research collaboration with one or more UBC scholars. The Prizes will be selected on the basis of international standing and outstanding contributions to the scholar’s field of research. The Distinguished Fellow is expected to undertake original innovative research in a highly interdisciplinary environment, and is expected to serve as a catalyst for long-term formative research with UBC, national and international researchers and/or community partners.
