A collegial governance
With a long story of collegial management, the UBIAS network is now governed by a Coordinating Council with IAS representatives from the five continents. Elected for two years, the Coordinating Council is lead by the Lead Coordinator.
In 2025, the Coordination Council was elected and is composed of seven members:
- The Network of French Institutes for Advanced Study (RFIEA), France, as Lead Coordinator,
- The Institute for Advanced Research (IAR) at the University of Nagoya, Japan
- The Merian Institute for Advanced Study in Africa (MIASA) in Accra, Ghana
- The Institute of Advanced Studies of the University of Sao Paulo (IEA-USP), Brazil
- The Institute for Advanced Studies at the University fo Western Australia (IAS-UWA) in Perth, Australia
- The Israel Institute for Advanced Study (IIAS) in Jerusalem, Israel
- the Zukunftskolleg (ZUKO) in Konstanz, Germany
Past coordinating Institutes were:
- 2021-2024: The Network of French Institutes for Advanced Study (RFIEA), France
- 2018-2021: Institute of Advanced Studies (IEA), University of São Paulo, Brazil
- 2016-2018: Aarhus Institute of Advanced Studies (AIAS), Aarhus University, Denmark
- 2010-2016: Freiburg Institute of Advanced Studies (FRIAS), University of Freiburg, Germany
